No one who has followed the past year’s renaissance of new young bands from Gothenburg, Sweden, could have missed the shoegaze storm that is Boy With Apple. Since 2020, rising from the ashes of No Kiss, Tim Hedlund, Saga Fransson, Zara Henriksson, and Jonas Normark have worked relentlessly to outdo themselves with every note. From their first EP Walk In The Park to their debut album Attachment, their own brand of dreamy, intensely sonic indie has taken them from venues like Skeppet, Pustervik, and Oceanen in Gothenburg to SXSW in Austin, Texas, and on to New York.

When Boy With Apple followed up the previous year’s successes with the release of the singles Feeble and Julia in 2025, Roskilde Festival reached out to the band with an invitation to perform on the Gaia stage. This resulted in the band’s biggest show to date, playing to an audience of 3,000.

Boy With Apple’s follow-up record Navigation will be released on April 24 via Welfare Sounds & Records and is recorded and mixed by the band themselves. This hands-on approach is a hallmark of Boy With Apple - seeing their songs safely into harbor from the first moments in the rehearsal space all the way to a finished album. The album marks a clear development in the band’s artistry. Navigation picks up where Attachment left off and incorporates elements of electronic dance music. The opening track Come Down makes this evident immediately - driving tempo, heavy bass, and floating vocals and melodies. As if Saint Etienne decided to become My Bloody Valentine instead. Outside My Window and Toxic Glue recall shoegaze’s golden era - Slowdive, Pale Saints, Mazzy Star, and loveliescrushing.

“If Attachment was about forming an understanding of where you’ve been and where you come from, Navigation is the next step - searching forward artistically, sonically, and as human beings,” the band explains.

It’s a collection of songs that together form an album inviting emotions from the entire spectrum: heart-wrenching melancholy, uncertainty surrounding an unclear love, and grief over what has been lost. Yet the darkness walks hand in hand with hope and joy - love for a friend in Julia, and moments of dancing ecstasy. Even the rigidity of quantum physics finds its place among all these emotions.

The time to discover Boy With Apple is now, as they take their next step forward with Navigation. It is shimmering, ear-splitting, and beautiful - everything that makes something truly unique from Gothenburg.
